Biography: Although originally thought to have studied under Rembrandt, Backer probably did not, but his work is strongly influenced the master’s style. Working mostly in Amsterdam, Backer enjoyed a successful career. His most famous painting is the “Portrait of a Boy in Grey,” done in 1634.
