Biography:
Nothing is known about Joseph Bauhaumer’s life in Germany before he moved to Paris in the 1740’s. After marrying a furniture-maker’s daughter, he was able to establish himself in a time where immigrant craftsmen were shunned by the native French cabinetmakers. Without ever becoming a master in his guild, Baumhauer was appointed the Dealer and Cabinetmaker to the King around 1749.
