Biography: Although Etienne-Louis Boullee originally wanted to become a painter, his father insisted that he pursue a career in architecture. He created elaborate and beautiful architectural drawings that were considered works of art even though some of the plans were never actualized. In the 1780’s, Boullee was focused on his careers as a teacher, scholar, and theoretician. He contained all of his art and architecture theories in a treatise that was illustrated with plans for public projects. The document was not published until 1953.
