Biography:
Emile-Antoine Bourdelle was born in Montauban and began working as a cabinetmaker, following in the footsteps of his father. In 1876, he enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and eventually won a scholarship to attend the same institution in Paris. Bourdelle was Rodin’s main assistant from 1893 to 1980 and was often overshadowed by his employer’s success. However, he received many important public commissions and was a respected teacher.
