Biography:
Jan de Bray was a Dutch portrait painter who spent most of his career working in Haarlem. He was the son of architect and painter, Salomon de Bray, who created mostly biblical and allegorical scenes. Jan de Bray’s work is reminiscent of fellow Haarlem resident Frans Hals but is also influenced by the technique of Bartholomeus van der Helst.
