Biography: Spanish painter, Eugenio Cajes was taught by his Tuscan father who had lived and worked in Spain for almost a decade before Eugenio’s birth. He also received training in Florence while traveling with his father in Italy. Cajes’s first commissions were collaborations with his father. In 1608, he began working for Phillip III and became his official painter four years later. During this time, he decorated part of the Toledo Cathedral. His original work was influenced by Mannerism, however he later adapted a more naturalist tendency.
