Biography:
Sir Augustus Wall Callcott first studied with portrait painter, John Hoppner before switching to landscape painting. His work was reminiscent of Turner’s paintings. He married author on topography and painting, Maria Graham in 1827 and settled in London. He was knighted in 1837 and was appointed Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures in 1843.
