Biography: M.C. Escher, was a Dutch printmaker who specialized in woodcuts and lithographs. His initial works were mostly landscapes and town scenes. However, in the 1930’s, he adopted a subject matter he called “inner visions” that consisted of repeated figures, often animals, arranged in interlocking patterns. He continued to play with optical illusions throughout the rest of his career.
