Biography:
Thomas Hudson studied under Jonathan Richardson the Elder and eventually married his master’s daughter. From around 1745 to 1755, Hudson was the leading portraitist in London, receiving some competition from Ramsay. He owned a large studio with many assistants to help him complete his large collection of works. Hudson retired towards the end of the 1750’s, around the time his pupil, Reynolds, was gaining a reputation.
