Biography: Dirck Jacobsz was born into a family of artists and first trained under his father, Jacob Cornelisz, van Oostsanen. He was also influence by another Amsterdam painter, Jan van Scorel’s Mannerist style. Jacobsz specialized in portraiture. His initial important painting was “The Crossbowmen” of 1529, the first militia portrait in Dutch art.
