Biography:
Wolfgang Katzhemier the Elder was the proprietor of a painting and woodcarving workshop in Bamberg from 1465 on. He was commissioned by the bishop’s court to supply objects of everyday use and he also designed stained-glass windows. In 1507, he published a book of twenty-two woodcuts for which he produced the preliminary drawings. No documented paintings survived.
