Biography: Born in the Netherlands, Pieter de Kempeneer spent much of his career in Spain, where he was referred to as Pedro de Campana. He worked in Seville from 1537 to 1561 and was the leading painter there for several years. Kempeneer returned to Brussels in 1563 and began designing tapestry cartoons and working as an architect and sculptor.
