Biography: In 1912, Andre Kertesz purchased his first camera and produced his first photograph while working as a clerk at the Budapest stock exchange. He then worked for years as an amateur snapshot photographer in Hungary before moving to Paris in 1925 to work freelance. Kertesz published three books of his works from 1933 to 1936. He moved to the United States in 1936 and settled in New York where he photographed architecture and interiors for magazines. After retiring at the age of sixty-eight, Kertesz was free to focus on the subjects that depicted his personal interests.
