Biography: Austrian printmaker and painter, Oskar Kokoschka, studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts from 1905 to 1909. His colorful and telling portraits are his favored works, although he also painted land and cityscapes. He was wounded in World War I, and returned to teach at the Dresden Academy of Art from 1919 to 1924. After traveling in Europe and the United States, Kokoschka settled in Prague for several years until the Nazi’s took over Czechoslovakia. In 1938, he moved to England for six years, but eventually traveled to Montreux, Switzerland and passed away in 1980.
