Biography:
Bernardino Lanino first studied under a local artist in his hometown of Vercelli. In 1530, he began working with the city’s most important painter and reached the rank of master three years later. In the mid 1500’s Lanino traveled to Milan multiple times to produce altarpieces and frescoes. While there, the chiaroscuro technique of Leonardo da Vinci had a profound influence on his drawings. His paintings became increasingly popular from 1560 to 1570 and his workshop had a startling output.
