Biography:
Andre Lhote began working as a commercial woodcarver while teaching himself how to paint. His early work was in the Fauvist style but after 1911, he adopted Cubism. His subject matter included landscape, still-life, interior scenes, mythology, and portraits. Lhote was more established as a teacher and art critic though. He opened the Academie Montparnasse in Paris in 1922. He later opened a sister school in South American in 1952.
