Biography: Loyset Liedet’s first recorded illuminated manuscript was created in 1454 in Hesdin, France where he was probably born. Painter and fellow illuminator, Simon Marmion influenced his early work. Liedet moved to Bruges in Flanders by 1468 and joined the stationers’ guild. In 1470 he began working for Charles the Bold produced over 400 miniatures for him during his two-year employment. Liedet worked mainly for the Burgundian court and rarely sold manuscripts on the open market.
