Biography:
Anton Mauve was one of the foremost painters of the Hague School. He painted small pictures of humble landscape subjects in a lightly colored palette. Van Gogh was Mauve’s wife’s cousin and he spent a period of time working with him from 1881 to 1882. Mauve had a prolific output and an established reputation. Many of his paintings can be found in museums in the Netherlands and abroad.
