Biography: John Jabez Edwin Mayall owned a daguerreotype studio in Philadelphia before he moved to London in 1846. In 1847, he opened the American Daguerreotype Institution in London. He became an established portraitist and photographed important British figures such as Sir John Herschel, Sir David Brewster, and Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre. Mayall sold his Institution in 1855 and began producing cartes-des-visite photographs. He published an album of the British royal family in 1860.
