Biography:
Conrat Meit probably studied in the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder and began working in Wittenberg for the Saxon Elector Friedrich the Wise by 1511. He was named official court sculptor to Margaret of Austria in 1514. Although he specialized in the small portrait busts, he created the tombs of Margaret, Philibert, and Margaret of Burgundy in 1526. Meit bought a house in Antwerp in 1534 and joined the Guild of Saint Luke.
