Biography:
German born, Hans Memling was raised and taught by Rogier can der Weyden in Belgium. He was settled in Bruges and 1463 and joined the painter’s guild in 1467. He was commissioned by Sir John Donne in 1468 to paint a triptych for the wedding of Charles the Bold. Memling is noted for his religious pieces, but also created a number of portraits.
