Biography:
Joos de Momper II came from a family of artists who resided in Antwerp. Because his paintings often featured mountains, it is thought that he might have traveled across the Alps to Italy in his early career. He became a master in Antwerp’s painters’ guild in 1581. He seemed to have enjoyed a successful and prolific career, as quite a number of his paintings have survived to date. His work was inspired by that of Bruegel and changed very little in its style throughout his career.
