Dr. John Murray was trained as a medical doctor but encountered photography while in the Medical Service of the Army of the East India Company. He became interested in Indian architecture and photographed many famous building in and around Agra in Uttar Pradesh during the forty years that he lived there. Murray used a large wooden camera and glass and waxed paper negatives.
