Biography:
Jan Mytens was taught to paint by his uncles in his adolescence. He joined The Hague’s guild of painters in his twenties and became its governor fifteen years later. He became a popular portrait painter in The Hague and received commissions from the upper class and government. Late in his life, Mytens founded the painters’ society De Pictura where he taught portrait painting until his death in 1670.
