Biography: Caspar Netscher spent most of his career in The Hague after settling there around 1661. He initially trained in Deventer under Terborch. Netscher painted genre scenes and some religious and mythological subject matter. However, after 1670, he painted portraits almost exclusively. He held a high reputation and was invited to England by Charles II, although it is unknown whether he actually went.
