Biography: Ceramicist Nicola da Urbino worked during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century. He was the master of a maiolica workshop in Urbino where he created his colorful and sophisticated peice. In 1525, Nicola produced two table services for Isabella d’Este, the Marchioness of Mantua and her son, Federico Gonzaga, the duke of Mantua. Nicola also illustrated scenes from history, mythology and the Bible on his ceramics, a technique that characterized the Renaissance style.
