Biography: Joseph Nollekens was born in London as the son of a Flemish painter. He trained with a Flemish sculptor in London and then moved to Rome in 1762 to work in Bartolomeo Cavaceppi’s workshop. During this period, he restored ancient sculptures and works by Michelangelo and Giambologna, allowing him to master the Neoclassical style. In 1770, Nollekens returned to England and joined the Royal Academy. He produced mainly tombs, some portrait busts, and mythological statues
