Biography: Matthew William Peters first studied with Hudson in the later 1750’s. He later traveled to Italy and Paris sometime between 1762 and 1784. His technique was similar to that of Titian and Greuze. His engravings of pin-up women were somewhat controversial but were also very popular. In 1782, Peters became a priest and ceased painting professionally six years later. However, he continued to paint for pleasure, mostly concentrating on religious pieces.
