Biography:
Named Jacopo Carucci but called Pontormo after his native Tuscan town, he was the son of a painter and exposed early on to High Renaissance art. He later developed a Mannerist and ornamental style. In addition, Pontormo was inspired by northern European artists such as Albrecht Durer. In the last decade of his life, he became a recluse and shunned even his closest of friends.
