Biography:
Orginally named Solomon Jacobsz de Gooyer, he and his brother adopted the name “Ruysdael” from a castle nearby where they grew up. He was dean of the Haarlem Painter’s Guild in 1648 and owned a supplying business. He spent his artistic career painting landscapes of the Netherlands and influencing later artists, such as his famous nephew Jacob van Ruysdael.
