Biography: Finnish Expressionist paint, Tyko Sallinen was the son of a tailor and was raised with strict fundamentalist religious views. He worked for several years as a tailor in Sweden before studying art in Helsinki. He visited Paris twice, in 1909 and 1914, and was influence by avant-garde painting movements such as Fauvism. Sallinen preferred to paint scenes of Finnish life and landscapes from his native country.
