Biography:
Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo was also known as Girolamo da Brescia, the area where his family probably originated. Little is known about his life. A painting done for a hospital in Parma shows he was there in his early twenties. He later applied for membership to the Florentine painter’s guild. Savoldo settled in Venice by the time he was forty and received commissions for portraits and altarpieces from members of the Milan nobility
