Biography: Sinibaldo Scorza was born into an aristocratic family and received lessons at home from a local painter. He moved to Genoa in 1604 and was employed in a workshop there, painting animals, flowers, and landscapes and also copying Albrecht Durer’s engravings. In 1619, Scorza was named court painter to the Duke of Savoy, but returned to Genoa in 1625 after the outbreak of war between Genoa and Savoy. Upon his return, he was accused of spying and imprisoned. The city exiled him and he traveled to Rome. Scorza was pardoned in 1627 and returned home only to find his paintings, possessions, and home had been burned. In the last years of his life, he produced engravings and paintings.
