Biography:
Alessandro Vittoria was the son of a tailor in Trent, Italy. He began apprenticing to sculptors in his hometown before moving to Venice to work in Jacopo Sansovino’s workshop on commissions for aristocratic clients and Venetian churches. By 1550 he was an independent sculptor working in Trent and Vicenza. He returned to Venice and resumed working with Sansovino on large marble and bronze sculptural projects. He was also employed by patrons as a sculptor, medalist, and decorator. Vittoria also worked as an architect and a painter.
