Influences:
Biography: One of the last English Romantic painters, John William Waterhouse studied at the Royal Academy Schools in England and began exhibiting in 1874. Although his early work held fast to the traditional, classic themes and techniques, his later paintings were influenced by Symbolism. He often painted the feminine subjects of the Pre-Raphaelites and the French Symbolists, infusing classical elements from his earlier works.
